A Danish movie originally titled Frygtelig lykkelig, this movie was released in 2008 and is basically a very gritty, real and dark drama mystery. The screenplay and direction were the work of Henrik Ruben Graz and the lead stars are Jakob Cedergen, Kim Bodnia and Lene Maria Christensen. The movie went on to win an immense number of awards which include awards of Best Actor, Best Cinematography, Best actress, Best Script, Best song, Best original score, etc at awards functions throughout the world which include the Bodil awards, Chicago International Film Festival, Ghent Film Festival and many more.
The story revolves around Robert Hansen (Jakob Cedergen) who gets transferred from Copenhagen to a village in South Jutland because of a break down has which leads to a very big mistake. Here, Robert quickly realizes that the town is dominated by the local goon Jorgen who is also a compulsive wife beater among other falsities of trait. Robert then tries to persuade Jorgen’s wife, who is also an out of towner, to file a complaint after which he can take action. This however, leads to different consequences between the two. Murder takes place in the town, which leads to a prime suspect who is the jailed. Robert, knowing that the prime suspect is innocent and also that he is running out of time to protect Jorgen’s daughter and himself, races against the clock to find the answers and a way out of this mess.
The entire crux of the film’s success lies in its drawing and extremely compelling performances by the lead actors and also a brilliant mix of story, script and sound in order to produce a perfectly dark, dramatic and extremely sinister environment. The concept of prevention of vigilante justice, the duties and boundaries of a police man and also the involvement of the police man in society, is bravely portrayed in the film. The art, makeup, design and styling of the movie is complete in every aspect and mirrors the dark intensity of the script. Supporting roles have been played by Kim Bodnia (Jorgen), Lars Brygmann and Jens Jorg Spottag among others. The entire casting and setup made the movie the grand success that it is acclaimed to be. Winner of over 19 awards across film festivals everywhere, the movie with its extremely dramatic and thrilling plot managed to attain massive critical acclaim. Released only in limited screens, the movie did well at each location and was able to become a commercial success.
